The Territorial Force was an army for home defence and for the first time higher tactical formations were created in the volunteer forces. For the Cavalry there were fourteen Mounted Brigades, each of three Yeomanry Regiments. Each Brigade also had a Battery of Royal Horse Artillery, a transport and supply column and a field ambulance.
