The Reductions from 1947 and 1961

In 1947 the TA was resurrected and thirty-three regiments were reconstituted in the Royal Armoured Corps. In 1950 The Worcestershire Hussars were converted from artillery and joined this number.

In 1956 six pairs of regiments were amalgamated. Two groups of three regiments did the same. Four Regiments were converted to infantry. This left twenty Royal Armoured Corps regiments. One yeomanry artillery regiment joined as an independant squadron.

In 1961 there were three amalgamations, but all the partners were either artillery or infantry before, thus the number of RAC regiments stayed at twenty.

In 1967 all regiments were formaly disbanded. New TAVR units were created, many of them perpetuating the titles and traditions of the disbanded units.
