The Companies of the Imperial Yeomanry during the Second Boer War

For the Second Boer War much extra manpower was required. Specially of the Mounted Infantry type. Volunteers were recruited throughout the United Kingdom for units of, what was called, the Imperial Yeomanry. The thirty-eight Yeomanry Cavalry regiments were not obliged to serve outside Britain, but all (co-)sponsored companies of the Imperial Yeomanry. These companies and the others raised are in column one.

The companies (except two) were organised into battalions. These battalions are in column two.

The sponsoring Yeomanry Cavalry regiments are in column three. The titles are shortened for reasons of space.

In 1901 the Yeomanry Cavalry was redesignated Imperial Yeomanry. The new titles (omitting any secundary designations) are in the last column. In 1901-1903 new Imperial Yeomanry regiments were raised. Part of them from veterans that returned from South Africa. They perpertuated the Imperial Yeomanry companies these veterans originated from. These regiments are also in the last column.
