The need for armoured units was not only met by converting existing cavalry regiments into armour,
but also by raising new units for the war. Several categories can be seen below.
They were all disbanded after the war.
Several battalions of the Territorial Army infantry were converted to numbered RAC regiments.
These TA battalions did exist before the war, but are listed here for completeness.
A number of infantry battalions was converted into a recconnaissance role.
They were gathered in The Reconnaissance Corps and later called Regiments.
In 1944 they were transferred to The RAC.
