These were the 208 battalions at the outbreak of the Great War. When the war started the TF was doubled.
All the battalions below were renumbered and second line battalions were created, the numbering being e.g.
1/6th Battalion and 2/6th Battalion. Later a third line (3/6th Battalion, later renamed 6th (Reserve) Battalion) and
sometimes more battalions were raised. These are not in this list, badges were the same as the original battalion.
For reasons of space the battallions of a regiment are grouped by badge and not according to their numerical sequence.
