From the transfer of nine regiments from the Honourable East India Company in 1862 to the reorganisation of 1881 the list of regiments was stable (only the 3rd - 5th West India Regiment were disbanded). Titles are the last ones before that reorganisation.
In 1881, the Grenadier Guards had three battalions, the Coldstream Guards and the Scots Guards each had two, the 1st - 25th Foot each had two and the 60th Foot and the Rifle Brigade each had four. A total of 150 battalions.
